There are mainly two types of tickets for the Burj Khalifa observation deck. One is a VIP ticket with a guided tour where you skip the line and head up to the world's highest observation deck on the 148th floor, looking down at Dubai from 555 meters high. The other is the more budget-friendly 125th+124th floor observation deck ticket. While it's not the highest in the world, it still reaches an impressive altitude of 456 meters.
The ticket for the world's highest 148th floor is more than twice as expensive as the economical 125th+124th-floor option. So, it really comes down to your personal preference—whether you absolutely want to experience the highest observation deck in the world, or if you're happy settling for the lower one to save some of your travel budget.
🐫 Burj Khalifa Booking Tips & Recommended Times
When we booked our Burj Khalifa tickets (Jan 2019), we tried using the official website, but at checkout, it required a phone number that could receive SMS texts for verification, which was a bit of a hassle. Because of this, we highly recommend booking your tickets in advance directly on KLOOK! If you book too late and they are sold out on KLOOK, your only remaining option is to buy them at the counter. If you're going during peak hours, not only will you waste precious time standing in long lines, but you also aren't even guaranteed to get a ticket… Long story short: for a super popular attraction like the Burj Khalifa, buy your tickets early, especially during peak tourist season!
📌 Book online early with Klook to skip the on-site ticket queue

The absolute best time to visit the observation deck is during the sunset peak hours! You get to see the daytime city views, the golden sunset, AND the sparkling night view~ Although peak-hour tickets are pricier, if your schedule allows, this is probably our most recommended time slot. The entrance to the Burj Khalifa observation deck is located on the Lower Ground (LG) floor of the Dubai Mall. Be prepared—it gets incredibly crowded during peak hours. Even with tickets booked online in advance, you'll still need to line up to get in. For popular time slots, we suggest arriving 1-2 hours early to scope out the queue. Otherwise, a slight delay in line might mean your sunset view turns straight into a night view! 😭😭😭

Since we just couldn't squeeze the sunset slot into our itinerary, we specifically asked our hotel staff: "Do you recommend going to the Burj Khalifa observation deck during the day or at night?" The staff member ended up giving us a rather brilliant response. He said if it were him, he would book for 11 PM—because there is absolutely no queue, and you don't have to squeeze in with massive crowds! We actually took his advice and booked the 11 PM slot (entry starts at 10:30 PM), and it was totally true! We didn't have to queue at all and just walked right in~ (Just imagine how packed it gets between those queue dividers in the photo above during busy times 😅)
🐫 Burj Khalifa 125th Floor 360° Observation Deck Experience
Right as you enter, the first thing you'll see is a cool model of the Burj Khalifa~

Then, you'll walk through a Time Corridor.

The corridor showcases the entire construction process of the Burj Khalifa from the ground up.

By 2008, when it reached the 160th floor, it had already far surpassed Taipei 101, firmly taking the throne as the world's tallest building.

Getting ready to take the elevator up to the observation deck! The way the elevator displays the floors is seriously cool!

It uses light projections to show the floor numbers, current altitude, and time remaining until arrival~ There's also a special audio-visual presentation during the ride, but we won't spoil the surprise here.

The elevator takes you straight up to the 125th-floor 360° observation deck. On the 125th floor, there's a massive LED screen floor pieced together to simulate walking on a transparent glass walkway high up in the Burj Khalifa. We could definitely feel the sincere effort they put into it!! However~ comparing the two, Cherry personally prefers the Dubai Frame, where you have a genuine transparent glass walkway to look down at the real view below.

At the end, the virtual glass walkway even suddenly cracks!! Isn't this exactly the terrifying little inner drama that plays in your head whenever you walk on a glass floor!? Ahhhhhhhh~~~ 😱😱😱

On the 125th floor, there's also a VR game where you can experience skydiving off the Burj Khalifa.

Riding a parachute, falling straight down~~~ You actually get to see what the Dubai Fountain looks like during the day! It made up a little bit for our regret of missing the daytime views!

🐫 Burj Khalifa 124th Floor Outdoor Observation Deck Experience
Although the 125th floor offers a 360-degree observation deck and you can see the night view through the glass, if you want to take great photos~ we recommend taking the stairs down one level to the 124th-floor outdoor observation deck.

The glass panels on the observation deck have small gaps between them. This helps avoid annoying glares so you can capture stunning night shots!

From the observation deck, you have a crystal-clear view of the Dubai Fountain directly below.

The 124th and 125th floors we visited actually aren't even the highest point of the Burj Khalifa. Looking up from the observation deck, it still stretches up so high!

The evening Dubai Fountain water shows run from 6 PM to 11 PM, happening on the hour and half-hour. When the show is on, remember to look down toward the fountain—you can watch this super unique high-altitude water dance~~

After viewing the observation deck and heading downstairs toward the exit~ there's an exhibition dedicated to the behind-the-scenes heroes who built the Burj Khalifa! It shares some backstories and lots of fascinating facts. For example, the exterior of the Burj Khalifa is composed of nearly 26,000 glass panels, and they originally brought in 300 craftsmen from China to build it… etc. We were super interested in all this info, but sadly… we booked our tickets way too late~ They were closing before we even finished browsing 😭

The craftsmen who built the Burj Khalifa seriously couldn't have a fear of heights… (Cherry said her legs were already turning to jelly just looking at it 😆)

There are also many architectural models on display. We really should have booked an earlier ticket… 😭😭😭 If you also want to avoid the crowds and prefer to book a night ticket, I highly recommend booking around the 10:00 PM or 10:30 PM time slot (and remember to still arrive 30 minutes early to queue!). We booked 11:00 PM, and they started clearing out the outdoor observation deck before we even had enough time to enjoy it… If you are interested in the architectural history, you might need to go even earlier!

To sum up our experience at the Burj Khalifa, the view from the world's tallest building truly is in a league of its own. Besides the fact that all the surrounding high-rises suddenly look tiny, the most unique part is seeing the Dubai Fountain from straight above—it's quite different from the views at any other observation deck we've been to so far. It feels like you're at the altitude you'd only see when looking out of an airplane as it descends. It's a highly recognizable view that, even years from now, you'll look at a photo and immediately know, "That's from the Burj Khalifa." If you come to Dubai, you absolutely cannot miss this observation deck!
