Beyond its incredibly unique architecture, Atlantis is also home to The Lost Chambers Aquarium and Aquaventure Waterpark—both absolutely worth exploring. It's definitely a must-visit in Dubai! (Read more: The Lost Chambers Aquarium, Aquaventure Waterpark)

We've been to Atlantis twice during our time in Dubai. The first time, we took a tour bus. Along the way, we noticed the elevated monorail tracks on our left and couldn't help but wonder what the view would be like from up there. That's when we decided we absolutely had to ride it!

The photo below shows the view from the monorail—you can see the entire Atlantis resort!

After deciding to take the monorail, the almighty Google Maps kept telling us to take a boat there! It didn't give us the monorail option at all 😱

🚊 The Ultimate Transport Guide

So… how exactly do you take the monorail to Atlantis?! First, you need to get to the monorail's Gateway Station. You could always take a taxi or an Uber there, of course. But if you want to rely entirely on public transport, you'll need to transfer between 3 different modes of transportation:

Step 1: The Metro

First, take the Metro Red Line to either Dubai Marina Station or Jumeirah Lakes Towers Station (depending on which is closer to you). You can check the Metro Route Map.

Step 2: The Tram

Transfer to the Tram (Orange Line) and take it to Palm Jumeirah Station. You can use your nol card for the tram, but remember to tap your card at the platform terminal! Tram stations don't have ticket gates like the metro does, and we almost forgot to tap ours… Don't forget to tap out on the platform when you get off, too!

Step 3: The Monorail

Walk to the Gateway Station to catch the Monorail. Ride it all the way to the final stop, Atlantis Aquaventure Station, which drops you right at the hotel.

Both Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers metro stations have clear signs pointing you toward the Tram.

Once you're on the tram platform, there's a clear route map. Take the tram heading towards Al Sufouh and get off at Palm Jumeirah Station.

Here’s what the inside of the tram looks like—it feels way more premium than the metro! 😆

After arriving at the station, start heading towards the Monorail's Gateway Station. First, you need to go up to the second floor and cross the skybridge.

Walk across this skybridge pictured below.

The view from the bridge is actually pretty nice!

Just keep following the Monorail signs.

As we kept walking, things felt a bit weird, and we ended up in this super eerie parking garage 😱

We doubted ourselves multiple times and wondered if we had taken a wrong turn, but that’s exactly where the signs pointed… We chose to trust the signs and kept pushing forward! After walking for about five minutes, we finally arrived at the Monorail's Gateway Station!

🚊 Ticket Information

Operating Hours: 9:00 AM - 9:45 PM (Trains every 15 mins)
Atlantis Ticket Prices: Single Trip AED 20 ; Round Trip AED 30 / person

🚊 Important Ticketing Tips

  • When buying Monorail tickets, they only accept cash in UAE Dirhams (AED). No credit cards, no USD, and you cannot use your regular Dubai Metro nol card. So, if you plan to ride it, make sure you have AED cash on hand! (Note: Info as of Jan 2019)

  • Tickets are only valid on the day of purchase, so you can't buy them in advance.

The station timetable is very straightforward: a train every 15 minutes from 9 AM to 9:45 PM. The last train information is also clearly marked.

The map clearly highlights the major hotels on Palm Jumeirah.

They even have two murals made of mosaic tiles depicting the Monorail and Palm Jumeirah.

If you look closely, they're quite detailed and beautiful!

🚊 Our Monorail Experience

We finally got our tickets! They look pretty nice, but note that they will be collected on your return trip.

The back of the ticket has a route map. The monorail runs from Gateway Station all the way to the final stop, Atlantis Aquaventure Station.

There’s actually only one line, and the platform screens display the info very clearly.

Once you're on the platform, head to the very front to wait. If possible, try to get into the very first carriage.

If you want the best view of Atlantis approaching, the very front seats in the first carriage are unmatched. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to grab those seats…

The inside of the carriage is covered with cute palm tree patterns!

The seats look really new, too!

But don't worry if you don't get the front seats! During the ride, apart from seeing Atlantis right in front of you, you can look out both sides: one side features the spectacular skyscraper cluster of Dubai Marina, and the other side offers a view of the Burj Al Arab!

The Burj Al Arab in the distance.

The view straight ahead.

While we were panicking trying to figure out which side had the better view… we arrived at Atlantis!!!

To be honest, if you're traveling in a group, taking the monorail to Atlantis isn't actually cheaper than an Uber or taxi. However, getting to sit on the monorail and soak in that incredibly clear view of Atlantis is still a fantastic experience! If it sounds fun to you, definitely give it a try. We hope you all make beautiful memories at Atlantis, too!
