Le Méridien Bora Bora is home to a wonderful Turtle Centre. Right inside the resort, you can get up close with the sea turtles that everyone is so eager to see while snorkeling 🐢! The Turtle Centre was born in 2000 when a guest found an injured sea turtle and brought it to the hotel staff. Since then, Le Méridien launched this special sea turtle project, which eventually inspired them to invest even more into the marine environment and ecological conservation efforts across Tahiti (French Polynesia)~

Through this initiative, Le Méridien Resort also began offering tourists the incredible chance to get up close and personal with the sea turtles. You'll even spot advertisements for the Turtle Centre posted right on the front doors of the Vaitape Tourist Centre.

Before our trip, we sent several emails to inquire about the details of seeing the sea turtles. Here's a complete breakdown of all the information we gathered for you (Based on March 2019 info)~

🐢 Transportation Information

🛥️ Private Boat Transfer

  • Daytime one-way: XPF 25,000/person (approx. USD$240)
  • After 8 PM one-way: XPF 32,000/person (approx. USD$305)

For transportation, Le Méridien can arrange a private boat transfer (the prices listed above are for travel between the Conrad and Le Méridien as of 2019). And yes, you read that right—that price is per person, one-way! You definitely need deep pockets if you want to take a private boat! 😱😱😱 While doing our research, we saw international travelers getting complete sticker shock over private boat transfer prices when changing hotels in Bora Bora. If you want to save some travel funds, you can take your hotel's shuttle boat to Vaitape instead. Every resort on the island operates shuttle boats to the Vaitape pier. By simply switching shuttle boats at the pier, you can save a ton of money. Cherry has shared detailed info on taking the Conrad resort shuttle boat; if you're interested, you can click here.

🛥️ Le Méridien Vaitape Shuttle Boat:

  • Departs from Vaitape Pier: 9:15am & 12:00pm
  • Departs from Le Méridien: 11:30am, 1:00pm & 4:00pm
  • Ticket Price: Round-trip XPF 2,800/person (approx. USD$27)

The tourist centre entrance also has Le Méridien's shuttle boat schedule posted, though the times differ slightly from what the hotel provided us directly (as of March 2019)~ We spent half the day researching all this because we genuinely planned to go see the sea turtles. Unfortunately, when we tried to confirm our reservation 48 hours in advance, we were told they were fully booked. Because of that, we sadly can't share our actual experience of taking the boat or seeing the turtles firsthand this time. Le Méridien's Turtle Centre primarily prioritizes their own hotel guests and can only confirm reservations for outside visitors 48 to 72 hours in advance. If you really want to go see the turtles, remember to confirm your booking early! 🐢🐢🐢
