Taking an ATV tour lets you venture deep into the winding, adventurous heart of Moorea. Along the way, you'll pass through picturesque landscapes filled with endless pineapple fields, babbling streams, and lush tropical jungles. Best of all, you get to check off Moorea's two most famous spots—Belvedere Lookout and Magic Mountain Overlook—all in one go. It's highly recommended as one of the best ways to explore the island!

An ATV tour is arguably one of the most popular activities in Moorea, and there are hundreds of different tour options online. Before booking, make sure to double-check the itinerary to ensure the stops align with what you're hoping to see!

One major difference between Moorea and Bora Bora is that Moorea features a continuous mountain range running right through its center. So, aside from its stunning lagoons, the mountain scenery and panoramic ocean views from above are absolute must-sees. Belvedere Lookout is one of the most famous viewing spots. It's accessible via a properly paved road, so besides joining an ATV tour, you can also easily get there by rental car or scooter.

Another iconic Moorea view is from Magic Mountain, where you can take in the island's majestic mountain peaks and vibrant lagoons all at once! The road up to Magic Mountain is incredibly steep, so standard cars can't make the drive. While you could hike up, the most unique and thrilling way up is definitely on an ATV! If you want to see the lagoon from high up on Magic Mountain, pay close attention when booking—not every ATV tour includes this stop.

After a ton of Googling, we found that Moorea Activities Center offers an ATV and Jet Ski combo package (Grand Combo). The 3.5-hour ATV tour includes Magic Mountain (which we really wanted to see), plus you get a 3-hour Jet Ski tour. If two people share one ATV and one Jet Ski, they only charge for one person! The price is per vehicle at XPF 40,000 (around $400 USD). That means a 3-hour activity averages out to just $100 USD per person!!! (And that's the 2022 price; when we went, it was only around $325 USD). Compared to the sky-high prices in Bora Bora, this is an absolute steal! Plus, public transport in Moorea isn't very convenient, so just as we were stressing over whether to rent a car or take a taxi, we found out this package even includes round-trip hotel transfers! If you're worried about being too exhausted doing both in one day, you can split them across two days!! Talk about top-tier service. How could we not book it immediately? (My bargain-hunting auntie personality totally came out here 😆)

On a side note, when we later chatted with a few locals and mentioned we booked with Moorea Activities Center, everyone gave them rave reviews. Several people even told us they are the best operator on the entire island!

For the Jet Ski tour, Moorea Activities Center highly recommends going in the morning when the ocean conditions are generally calmer. For the ATV tour, the time of day doesn't matter as much, so we opted for an afternoon ride to fit our schedule. We aren't sure if it was because we visited during the low season or because mornings are just more popular, but our group only had four ATVs in total—one for the guide, and three for the six of us tourists.

First stop: the pineapple fields! 🍍 🍍 🍍

Pineapples grown in Moorea are on the smaller side. They look a little bit different from the big, familiar ones we usually see back home.

Next, we set off toward the lookout. Along the way, our guide doubled as our personal photographer, snapping photos of us the whole time! Afterward, they upload all the photos to their Facebook page for free downloading. Sure, there's a big company logo watermarked on them, but they still captured some truly precious moments for us.

The famous Belvedere Lookout in Moorea!!

The entire island of Moorea is actually an extinct volcano. The two famous bays surrounding Mount Rotui—Cook's Bay and Opunohu Bay—are actually the bottom of the ancient volcanic crater! From the lookout, you get a front-row view of the jagged, 899-meter-high Mount Rotui right before your eyes. The lush green peaks separating the two perfectly calm bays create a striking and beautiful contrast.

If you look at the map, Belvedere Lookout is marked as #2. Following the arrow's direction, you can see the central mountain range and the bays on either side. Marked as #1 is the Moorea Activities Center where our ATV tour started, and #3 is the other famous spot, Magic Mountain Overlook.

The bay on the right is Cook's Bay. Story has it that the naming of Cook's Bay was actually a beautiful misunderstanding! Captain James Cook originally anchored his ship in the other bay (Opunohu Bay). But the name "Cook's Bay" stuck, and they decided to just roll with the mistake to this day.

And on the left is Opunohu Bay, the actual spot where Captain Cook dropped anchor!

Right next to the lookout, there's a little vendor selling fresh coconuts grown right here in Moorea.

Maybe we were just really thirsty, but that fresh coconut water tasted incredibly refreshing!

Once you finish drinking the water, you just hand the coconut back to the boss, and he'll hack it open to scoop out the fresh coconut meat for you.

Time to enjoy the delicious coconut meat inside!

There are wild chickens hanging out in the parking lot. They're clearly pros at this, just waiting around for tourists to drop their leftover coconut!

Rehydrated and fueled up on coconut, we hit the road again! We passed by so many stunning landscapes along the way.

Trekking over mountains and through the water…

Navigating through the jungle…

Crossing the stream! Splashing through the water on our ATVs made the whole ride feel like a true jungle adventure.

Our guide even took us to a specific spot to view the exact mountain featured on the Pacific Franc (XPF) 50 and 100 coins!

Doesn't it look exactly the same?!

Next, we started our ascent toward Magic Mountain Overlook. The mountain trail is seriously steep and exhilarating! It was so steep, in fact, that we had to hold on for dear life and couldn't even free up a hand to take photos. 😆

Once we arrived, we parked our ATVs at the mountaintop "parking lot."

You have to walk the final short stretch. The stairs even have a cute "Welcome to Moorea" carved into them!

Even though this path is quite steep, it's only about 100 to 200 meters until you reach the actual lookout point.

The first thing that caught our eyes when we reached Magic Mountain Overlook was 👉🏻 the "Western F4" from our tour group! 😆 Their cute silhouettes against the backdrop were too good not to sneak a quick photo.

Mountains, water, blue skies, and fluffy white clouds. Picking a day with good weather to visit Magic Mountain is absolutely crucial!

Under the bright, radiant sunshine, you get a crystal-clear view of Moorea's gorgeous lagoons.

If the weather is nice, Magic Mountain Overlook is 100% worth the trip!

After taking in the magnificent lagoon views, we found our guide waiting for us with freshly sliced pineapple that we had just picked from the fields earlier!

Even though these local pineapples are small, they are incredibly sweet and delicious!

After finishing our pineapple snack, we happily started our journey back. During this 3-hour ATV tour, our guide led us deep into the winding heart of Moorea, navigating through rugged woodlands, lush green pineapple fields, and dense tropical jungles. As we drove through the mountains, Moorea's majestic, naturally sculpted peaks shifted in and out of view. Depending on the angle, the mountain silhouettes, ocean vistas, and farmlands intertwined to create living paintings that felt almost too beautiful to be real.

Standing at Belvedere Lookout, taking in the magnificent peaks and crystalline bays all at once, you realize this perfect natural wonder is something uniquely Moorea. Magic Mountain Overlook further proves that Moorea is just as much about epic mountains as it is about the ocean. Gazing out over the water from the top, you can see every shade of blue—from baby blue and vivid azure to deep navy—with the surrounding coral reefs clearly visible beneath the surface. These are the absolute must-see views of the island. If you can only choose one activity to do in Moorea, we wholeheartedly recommend this ATV tour!

➡️ Book Now: 3.5-Hour ATV + Jet Ski Combo / 3.5-Hour ATV Tour / 2.5-Hour ATV Tour

If you don't want to do the Jet Ski portion, you can also just book the 3.5-Hour ATV Tour or the 2.5-Hour ATV Tour on their own. Just keep in mind that the 2.5-hour option does not go to Magic Mountain Overlook. If you are interested in the Jet Ski tour, we've got a whole blog post sharing our experience, so be sure to check that out!
