The Westin Tashee Resort is nestled in the misty mountains just 3.8 kilometers from Daxi Old Street. With its secluded location, lush green mountain views, South Asian-style outdoor pool, and resort-worthy facilities, it truly makes you feel like you've been transported to Bali! It’s absolutely our top pick for a quick "faux-abroad" staycation close to home!

🌴 Table of Contents

🌴 Location & Transport

The Westin Tashee Resort is about a 45-minute drive from the Taoyuan High-Speed Rail (HSR) station and 15 minutes from Daxi Old Street. If you're planning to take public transit, the hotel offers a free shuttle bus, but it only runs once a day! It departs from the hotel at 12:00 PM and from the Taoyuan HSR station at 1:00 PM. We highly recommend checking if there are available seats and booking the shuttle before you confirm your room reservation. Before our stay, we were told the shuttle was fully booked and were advised to take a bus from the HSR station to Daxi Old Street and transfer—it's not a direct route (info as of May 2021). Honestly, because The Westin Tashee is quite remote, we'd recommend driving yourself or renting a car to get there. If you do drive, the hotel has a free parking lot, so you don't need to worry about parking!

🌴 Hotel Lobby

Stepping into the resort's lobby, the high ceilings make the space feel incredibly grand and spacious. Looking straight ahead, you're greeted by a massive row of floor-to-ceiling windows letting in a relaxing view of lush greenery!

The photo above shows the main check-in counter in the lobby. Since we held Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status during this stay, the friendly reception staff immediately guided us to the dedicated counter next to the exclusive member lounge to check in. They also gave us a detailed walkthrough of the resort's facilities and activities. Cherry was already heavily pregnant at the time, and the staff instantly found a place for her to sit and rest—so incredibly sweet and thoughtful!

The exclusive lounge for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite members and above is open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The dedicated check-in counter inside the member lounge. The backdrop features a stunning wall of lighting fixtures that gives the space a beautiful sense of depth.

Many Marriott properties call their exclusive member lounges "Executive Lounges," and some offer hot food during specific "Happy Hour" periods. However, this was actually Cherry's first time seeing a dedicated member lounge at a Marriott "Resort" property! At the other resorts we've stayed at—like the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa, The Laguna Bali, and Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay—there weren't any executive lounges or exclusive member resting areas. So, seeing this member lounge at The Westin Tashee felt super novel! Even though the lounge only serves tea, drinks, and some small snacks (no hot food), the massive sofa area is incredibly spacious and comfortable!

Maybe because there’s no hot food, it’s really quiet in here—which actually makes it feel even more relaxing! 🤣

Pick a quiet time with few people, sit by the window, and gaze out at the shady gardens and a corner of the pool. Sipping a drink, enjoying a snack, and taking in this relaxing view is just purely delightful!

Whoops, got a bit sidetracked talking about the check-in! 😆 After completing the check-in process, you receive a sensor wristband that looks like a watch to replace the traditional room card. It’s incredibly convenient if you’re doing outdoor activities or jumping in the water! It even has "Sleep Well Play Well" adorably written on it. Sleeping well and playing well—how thoughtful! Aren't those the two most important things on a vacation?

🌴 Room Tour: Studio Suite

For this trip, we stayed in the garden-view Studio Suite! The room incorporates lots of wooden elements and soft, indirect lighting. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide brilliant natural light and seem to seamlessly connect the refreshing outdoor scenery right into the room. Although we successfully upgraded to a suite using Marriott Bonvoy "Suite Night Awards," the TV in this Studio Suite is placed right in front of the bed. It's shared between the bed and the adjacent chaise lounge seating area, rather than having a completely separate living room. This is a bit different from the suites Cherry has stayed in previously! 🤔 (Book as a Member)

The Westin Tashee features 205 rooms, and reportedly, every single one comes with a private balcony! You get a sweeping view of the lush greenery right from your room, or you can kick back on the balcony and soak up the picturesque scenery around you.

Before checking in, Cherry read some reviews from guests expressing disappointment about the old, weathered tables and chairs on the balconies. We have to admit, after being exposed to the sun and rain, the balcony furniture definitely shows its age. It's a bit of a pity and kind of defeats the purpose of giving every room a balcony (info as of May 2021). But since we were mentally prepared for it, and spent most of our stay busy enjoying the hotel’s other facilities with barely any time to lounge outside, we didn't really mind!

Behind the TV wall is the bathroom.

The rectangular bathroom space features a double vanity right in the center.

The amenities on the sink are kept in a very high-quality white wooden box. Doesn't it look a bit like a jewelry box?

In addition to the double sinks, the counter space is massive. The shower and toilet are located at opposite ends of the bathroom, both separated by frosted glass doors that provide privacy while still letting light through.

For a resort hotel, the bathroom in this room type isn't considered huge. The shower is right next to the bathtub without a partition, and the distance isn't quite far enough, so the bathtub inevitably gets a little wet while you shower.

The bath amenities feature Westin's own brand, "Heavenly Spa," specifically the White Tea Aloe collection. It's touted as being free of added preservatives and dyes, and rich in natural ingredients.

Near the entrance is a small seating area with a round table and two chairs.

There's also a large multi-functional counter that can serve as a desk or as an extended prep space for the adjacent Mini Bar.

The Mini Bar includes a coffee machine, coffee pods, Twinings tea bags, teaware, and wine glasses.

We were thrilled to find an extra-large walk-in closet! There’s plenty of storage and space for luggage.

An iron, ironing board, and safe are all fully equipped!

The hotel provides a pair of flip-flops for each guest. They are actually quite comfortable, and yes, you can take them home!

Welcome fruit and a treat—pineapple cake! In the past, I didn't care much about the fruit hotels provided, but ever since getting pregnant, I get super excited every time I see fruit! And when I get hungry at night, I literally chop it all up and devour it. 🤣

Since we checked in exactly on Cherry's birthday, the hotel gifted us a 6-inch blueberry cheesecake and a bottle of red wine! Both the pineapple cake and the blueberry cheesecake are sold at the hotel’s "the deli." We later found out this cake retails for NT$850. A whole cake plus a bottle of wine—what an incredibly sincere and generous birthday gift!

One thing especially worth mentioning: this stay at The Westin Tashee was to celebrate Cherry's final "faux-single" birthday before the baby arrives. Since her baby bump was already very obvious, the front desk staff thoughtfully asked if she needed a pregnancy pillow (maternity pillow) during check-in. Hearing that the hotel actually provided pregnancy pillows was a total shock—in the best way possible! It truly lives up to the Westin brand's reputation for prioritizing guest sleep quality. Thanks to this pillow and the Heavenly Bed, Cherry rarely sleeps this well away from home! We also noticed two or three other expectant mothers during our stay (has this resort been a secret hotspot for pregnant women all along?!). I have to say, for moms-to-be who might find traveling abroad inconvenient, The Westin Tashee is absolutely perfect for a babymoon! You eat well, sleep well, and feel like you're in Bali in seconds without ever getting on a plane!

To sum up, the design of this Studio Suite is classic and proper. It uses clean lines and plenty of wood elements. While it doesn't have an overly unique or eccentric design style, it’s a very typical, highly comfortable, and relaxing resort suite!

🌴 Seasonal Tastes Buffet Breakfast

When you're on vacation, apart from the "sleep well, play well" motto on the wristband, "eating well" is definitely a major highlight! The Westin Tashee's buffet breakfast is served at Westin's signature all-day dining restaurant 👉🏻 Seasonal Tastes, available from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The spread is solid, featuring both Chinese and Western options!

The Western hot foods are standard but well done: various sausages, baked ham, bacon, chicken nuggets, baked beans in tomato sauce, and so on.

The salad bar features a massive wheel of cheese that you can scoop from yourself. For some reason, presenting it this way just makes the cheese look so premium! Cherry was a huge fan of the sweet and sour passionfruit dressing and the blueberry yogurt dressing.

The live cooking station for Western pastries was serving French toast during our stay!

The selection of Chinese hot dishes wasn't exceptionally large.

However, our impression was boosted by the appearance of some less common Chinese items, like shredded radish pastries and pork pies, which were all quite tasty!

I don't think I've ever seen an iced butter pineapple bun (Bolo Bao) at a hotel buffet breakfast before! Even though it feels like you'd get full just from eating one, I couldn't resist grabbing one anyway! 😆

Of course, congee with traditional pickled side dishes is an absolute must-have.

They even set up a dedicated vegetarian section!

The live Taiwanese noodle station! There are so many choices—yellow noodles, Hsinchu thin rice noodles, udon, golden fish balls, fish tofu, Hsinchu pork meatballs. We were genuinely impressed by the sheer variety at this live cooking station on our first morning.

Tons of fruit options! I counted a total of eight different kinds.

The three juices on offer weren't just standard juices; they had special twists—Cranberry Vinegar, Watermelon Mint, and Pomelo Citrus. They were all pretty good!

Tea and coffee! For coffee, they also offer a decaf option.

Looking out the window, you get a beautiful view of the outdoor pool!

Overall, the breakfast at The Westin Tashee performs quite well. For an expectant mother trying to moderate her carb intake, there were still plenty of things I could eat. Compared to city business hotels, the selection is vast. Although it doesn't quite reach the dizzying heights of the breakfast at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc or the Renaissance Bali Uluwatu, it definitely hits the standard we expect for a resort breakfast! At the very least, we looked forward to breakfast every single morning. Best of all, the view from the window is absolutely stunning; just looking outside instantly puts you in a great mood, adding huge bonus points to the buffet experience!

🌴 Hotel Facilities

The most highly recommended aspect of The Westin Tashee Resort is undoubtedly its extensive indoor and outdoor facilities! They cater to guests of all ages looking to unwind. Beyond the Instagram-famous classic Bali-style swimming pool, there are plenty of other fantastic amenities to enjoy!

Outdoor Pool

When people think of The Westin Tashee, this pool scene is probably the first thing that comes to mind! The crystal-blue water sparkling under the sun, romantic cabanas interspersed with the quintessential resort palm trees—it flawlessly creates a classic tropical island vibe. If you didn't tell anyone, they'd honestly think you were in Bali! Speaking from our experience visiting several Bali resorts, this view is virtually identical to what we experienced at The Laguna Bali; it features that traditional, classic tropical island resort aesthetic!

The view from the cabana! Doesn't it really feel like you've gone abroad?! You could easily spend ages just lying here daydreaming. Because there aren't many cabanas, they are naturally a highly contested commodity—getting one is tough! Cherry originally planned to snag a spot while everyone else was eating breakfast, but they were already completely taken! Our tip: Your best chance to grab a cabana is during the popular check-out time, the transition period before the new guests check in!

Besides being incredibly photogenic, the pool also offers paid water activities like floating water walking balls (NT$200 for 5 minutes) and winter-exclusive bumper boats (NT$200 for 15 minutes).

On the other side is a shallower children's wading area complete with a small water slide and a water basketball hoop!

You can also use the water shooters outside the pool to fiercely "interact" (blast) with the people in the water! 🤣

If you haven't taken enough photos by the romantic Bali-style pool, you definitely can't miss 👉🏻 the dreamy carousel! It's completely free for all hotel guests to use, and yes, adults can ride it too! This playful carousel isn't just fun and photogenic; it really awakens your childhood memories! (Must be 3 years or older; children under 6 require an accompanying adult. Weight limit is 80kg.)

Family Golf

There's an adorable children's mini-golf course featuring beautifully themed putting greens. We were told the designs are inspired by popular local tourist attractions: Xiao Wulai Scenic Area, Taoyuan Baseball Stadium, Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum, Lala Mountain, Shihmen Reservoir, and more. Seeing so many cute, child-like designs, we couldn't resist playing a round ourselves!

Cool Go-Kart Track

This cool go-kart track is exclusively for kids aged 3 and up and weighing under 25kg.

After seeing this ridiculously cute race track, Cherry silently resolved that once our son grows up, we absolutely have to bring him back here to properly enjoy these facilities! (He’s still in my belly, I'm really thinking far ahead 🤣)

Colorful Slide

Right next to the go-kart track is another kids-only facility—essentially a supersized park! Seeing all of this, it completely makes sense why The Westin Tashee Resort has earned the resounding title of "The Strongest Family-Friendly Hotel in Northern Taiwan"!

Giant Chess

The oversized chessboard screams foreign resort style! We saw a very similar chessboard during our honeymoon at the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay. If you know how to play, you can genuinely have a match. If not, it makes for a fantastic photo backdrop!

9-Square Basketball

This 9-square basketball shootout is several times larger than the coin-operated arcade versions! Needless to say, it’s another free facility that burns off energy and passes the time. Both adults and kids were having an absolute blast!

Indoor Pool

If you didn't manage to grab a cabana at the outdoor pool or prefer to stay out of the sun and wind, the indoor pool is a fantastic alternative. It’s significantly less crowded! If you want a quiet swim, the indoor pool is a great choice. We heard they even screen movies in the indoor pool area at specific times. If you're interested, you can check the daily announcements, though we didn't get a chance to experience it ourselves!

Heavenly Spa

(Image Source: The Westin Tashee Resort Official Website)

The reservation-only Beauty Hot Spring Pool inside the Heavenly Spa costs NT$200 per person for 90 minutes. We highly recommend trying it if you have the chance! While it's not a natural hot spring—it’s a simulated sodium bicarbonate spring refined through high-pressure equipment—the environment inside Heavenly Spa is incredibly spacious, elegant, and comfortable!

I was initially a bit shy about soaking with strangers, but I booked an afternoon slot and there was absolutely no one else there! Cherry had the entire place to herself the whole time, instantly making me feel like a VIP! 🤣 Supposedly, the hot spring pool moisturizes the skin and boosts metabolism and circulation. Even better, if you hold Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status or higher, you can enjoy the Beauty Hot Spring Pool for free (info as of May 2021). Do not miss out on this!

Fitness Studio

The gym is equipped with treadmills, spin bikes, free weights, and weight machines. Interestingly, the indoor pool right in front of the gym seems to cast a relaxing resort vibe over the space. Working out while facing the pool somehow puts you in a much better mood!

Kids Club

The Kids Club is designed for children aged 3 to 12. The massive indoor space features a colorful ball pit and reading area, while outside there's a sandbox. Floor-to-ceiling windows make the entire Kids Club bright and comfortable, letting the beautiful outdoor scenery pour right in.

Business Center

The business center feels more like a cozy, café-style mini-library. It displays quite a few books, so in addition to having computers and free internet for work, you can also just lounge in this spacious, comfortable area with a cup of coffee and a good book. It’s a wonderfully laid-back business center!

🌴 Hotel Activities

DIY Aiyu Jelly

Beyond the hardware facilities, many overseas resorts offer a packed schedule of activities for guests to join. For example, at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc in Vietnam, we did lantern making and conical hat painting, keeping our itinerary completely full from dawn till dusk without ever leaving the hotel. This is one area where The Westin Tashee feels a bit weaker. We participated in the Aiyu Jelly making activity, which has a very authentic Taiwanese flavor, but the overall selection of activities is relatively sparse.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour runs from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM by the pool bar. Unlike most Marriott properties, The Westin Tashee's Happy Hour is open to ALL hotel guests, not just select Marriott members! They really put the "happy" in Happy Hour—it feels like a massive, lively party!

During our stay (May 2021), there was free-flowing draft beer, orange juice, grapefruit juice, 7-Up, Coke, and orange soda. There were also two non-alcoholic mocktails: Pomegranate and Lime Sparkling drinks. It really caters to guests of all ages!

Even on a weeknight, they had a live singer performing. Enjoying the lively, harmonious atmosphere with live music while taking in the night view of the outdoor pool is an experience you simply can't miss during your stay!

After reading this, don't you think The Westin Tashee Resort's facilities and activities are incredibly rich? By coincidence, we recently stayed at the only two Westin resort properties in Taiwan back-to-back. I have to say, compared to the Westin Yilan, which feels more like a Japanese hot spring ryokan, this Westin in Daxi truly delivers that "overseas vacation" vibe! The indoor and outdoor facilities are much more expansive. Overall, both the hardware and software completely matched Cherry's expectations and definition of a true resort—it's absolutely a place where you can just check in and blissfully stay put to enjoy the amenities! The facilities are exceptionally kid-friendly, making it perfect for family trips. Adults get to relax while the kids burn off energy; it's practically perfect! 🤩

🌴 Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Benefits

While Marriott members don't get an "exclusive" Happy Hour here 🤔, this was our first time seeing an exclusive member lounge at a resort! With so many facilities to enjoy, being able to get a late checkout until 4:00 PM (for Platinum and above) essentially gives you a whole extra day to use the amenities. However, when the hotel is fully booked, you might not be able to get that late checkout, or they might only extend it to 1:00 PM. But don't worry! If you still want to use the facilities, you can check out of your room first and continue using the outdoor resort amenities until 4:00 PM! Additionally, Platinum members and above get free access to the Beauty Hot Spring, and there are restaurant discounts on weekdays depending on your tier. When you add it all up, there are still some pretty sweet perks! Here's a quick rundown for your reference:

  • Exclusive Member Lounge
  • Free Beauty Hot Spring access
  • Use of facilities until 4:00 PM on checkout day
  • Weekday restaurant discounts

To summarize, the room design at The Westin Tashee Resort is comfortable and relaxing, and the ultra-popular Bali-style pool absolutely lives up to the hype! It truly gives you the illusion of being in Bali; you could easily spend half a day just sitting in a cabana! The resort boasts a massive variety of facilities. While most are great for all ages, Cherry thinks it’s especially perfect for bringing the kids! We've already made up our minds—once the baby in my belly grows up, we are absolutely coming back for a family staycation!
