The Sunworld Cable Car runs from An Thoi on Phu Quoc Island to its largest offshore island, Hon Thom (Pineapple Island). To this day, it holds the Guinness World Record for the longest over-sea cable car in the world, stretching a staggering 7,899.9 meters. Traveling at a speed of 8.5 meters per second, a one-way trip takes about 20 minutes. At its highest point of 160 meters, the cable car offers a spectacular 360-degree bird's-eye view of the Phu Quoc archipelago. With its emerald green bays and fleets of fishing boats, it's my personal favorite spot on Phu Quoc—hands down!

🚠 Transportation Guide

When we first visited Phu Quoc back in November 2018, there wasn't much public transportation available; renting a scooter or taking a taxi were the only ways to get to the cable car station. However, getting around Phu Quoc is now incredibly convenient since you can easily hail a Grab! If you're planning to visit multiple attractions in a single day, we highly recommend booking a private car charter. You can book a charter online in advance, or you could also rent a scooter. If you're staying at a hotel, you can also ask the front desk about the cost of hiring a taxi for the whole day.

Starting in February 2023, Sun World Phu Quoc began offering free shuttle buses running between the park and several stops in Duong Dong Ward. The shuttle information is shown in the image above. If you're staying near Duong Dong, definitely take advantage of this!

🚠 Riding the Phu Quoc Cable Car

Inside the Phu Quoc cable car station, there's a cute cable car model you can take photos with!

For some reason, there was almost no one else around that day.

We got super lucky and had the entire cable car cabin all to ourselves!!

The cabin proudly displays the Guinness World Records logo for the 7,899.9-meter-long over-sea cable car.

The views are absolutely breathtaking. How can there be this many fishing boats?!

Seriously, the sheer number of them is mind-blowing!

Passing by beautiful little islands.

Looking down at the coral reefs in the ocean from high above.

Going higher and higher… it definitely makes your legs feel a little weak!

The cable car has open ventilation windows, allowing us to take pictures without any annoying glass reflections. But please be incredibly careful—if you drop your camera or phone out the window, you are never getting it back!!!!

🚠 Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park

After arriving at the Hon Thom station, there are free golf buggies right outside the exit waiting to whisk you away to the nearby beach. The lady driving was wearing a traditional conical hat—classic Vietnam!

The island is currently being developed into "Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park." Since construction wasn't fully complete when we visited, the main area open to the public was this beach~

They have these lovely lounge chairs on the beach for visitors to use. So thoughtful!

It wasn't very crowded when we visited, and the beach was beautifully clean.

There were a few water activities available, but we didn't bring our swimsuits, so we gave them a miss.

The other end of the beach was practically deserted, making it a perfect spot to stroll and just zone out for a bit.

As we were walking along, we suddenly spotted this swing on the peaceful beach~

And surprisingly, no one was using it! However, I don't know if the swing is just really high (or if I'm just too short… 😆 ), but it was incredibly hard to climb onto! The seat was also quite slippery, making it easy to slide right off. If you want to play on it, definitely be careful!

There was only one restaurant next to the beach, "3Mien," which serves a buffet. It costs VND 250,000 for adults (about $11 USD) and VND 125,000 for children (about $5.50 USD).

We had just stuffed ourselves with brunch at the hotel, so we didn't eat there. If you don't want a full meal, there are also some small stalls next to the restaurant selling fresh sugarcane juice, popsicles, and other snacks~

When we took the golf buggy back to the station to return, we perfectly timed it with the 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM break when the cable car stops running. We wandered around the station area for a bit. There's some nice landscaping and a few small cafes (sadly, they didn't sell the fresh coconuts I was craving), but there are definitely some great photo spots!

On the way back, we were determined to get an entire cabin to ourselves again! So, we waited until the crowds that had built up during the break had mostly cleared out before finally hopping on the cable car!

Arriving back at the Phu Quoc station, we really appreciated the European-style design of the building! The ocean views through the floor-to-ceiling windows inside the station are absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend taking a look!

We didn't eat on Hon Thom Island or do any water sports, so the whole experience was very relaxed and took us about 3-4 hours in total. Later, when we were chatting with other guests at our resort, we vigorously recommended this place to them! If you can only choose ONE attraction to visit in Phu Quoc, pick a day with beautiful weather and go ride the world's longest over-sea cable car!!! 🚡 🚡 🚡

🔔 Update 🔔 The Aquatopia Water Park on Hon Thom Island officially opened in 2020! If you want to splash around in the water, it totally makes for a perfect full-day excursion. With the combo ticket for the cable car and the water park, you could easily spend the entire day there. Plus, considering how highly we recommend the cable car experience itself, it's a fantastic value! Book Tickets

Aside from the highly recommended cable car and water park, there are a few other new must-visit spots we didn't have time for but definitely suggest looking into! These include the Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, VinWonders Phu Quoc (which features an aquarium and its own water park), and the Venice-inspired Grand World Phu Quoc!
