Itinerary Overview
Souq Waqif

After picking us up from our hotel, our first stop was the Falcon Souq located within Souq Waqif. There are about a dozen shops here selling falcons and related accessories. Under our guide's lead, we got an up-close look at these magnificent birds that hold such a pivotal and prestigious place in Qatari culture!

After a short walk of just a few minutes, we arrived at the Camel Pen, where a large group of camels was gathered. This was probably the first time Cherry had ever seen so many camels all at once in her life!

Since the camel viewing area is right next to The Corniche, you can see the modern Doha West Bay skyline directly behind the camels. At first glance, it creates an incredibly striking and fascinating visual contrast!

Next, we ventured deeper into Souq Waqif. Our guide expertly navigated the maze and took us straight to a traditional spice shop for some amazing photo ops.

We then stepped into a community center called "Majlis Al Dama", where locals in traditional attire were playing board games. We relaxed on traditional sofas, enjoying sweet dates our guide bought for us, paired with small cups of Arabic coffee. Sweet dates with bitter coffee is the classic, authentic way to enjoy it here. However, the Arabic coffee was super bitter—to be honest, Cherry just couldn't get used to the taste, so Kevin ended up finishing hers!

After our coffee break, we made a quick visit to a perfume shop. The fragrance inside was intensely strong—Cherry sneezed the moment she walked through the door! 😅

We then walked out of the winding alleys and arrived at the iconic golden sculpture, "Le Pouce" (The Thumb). Here, we had a little bit of free time to wander around and shop for souvenirs. If you plan on buying anything, remember to carry some cash with you!

Overall, the Discover Doha tour dedicates a good chunk of time to Souq Waqif. But we actually ended up coming back here several times on our own later to eat, drink, and explore! There are also quite a few surrounding attractions you can visit together. If you're interested, check out our guide 👉🏻 Souq Waqif & Surrounding Attractions Complete Guide
The Corniche

Along The Corniche, there is a FIFA 2022 World Cup Countdown Clock. We actually visited Qatar just two months before the 2022 World Cup kicked off!

So taking a photo with the countdown clock felt extra special and exciting.

Besides the countdown clock, you can also take in the stunning coastal views along The Corniche—specifically the impressive West Bay city skyline. Dotted with traditional wooden dhow boats flying Qatari flags along the shore, it paints a picture of a bustling, modern metropolis mixed with exotic coastal charm. Definitely a must-see!

In fact, The Corniche stretches for a full seven kilometers. If you aren't particularly interested in seeing the World Cup countdown clock, you can take a stroll outside the famous Museum of Islamic Art when you visit, or even walk all the way to Souq Waqif. The Corniche section near the Museum of Islamic Art is also incredibly beautiful! For more details, you can check out 👉🏻 Souq Waqif & Surrounding Attractions Complete Guide
Doha Skyline
On the way to our next stop, Katara Cultural Village, we passed through Qatar's bustling high-rise district. Be sure to seize the moment and snap some photos from the window!

Katara Cultural Village

Located between Doha's West Bay and The Pearl-Qatar, Katara Cultural Village is home to a lot of unique architecture worth seeing. This includes Doha's iconic murals of a whale shark and an Arabian oryx! There is also a spectacular outdoor amphitheater used for major Qatari cultural festivals and concerts, as well as the classic Katara Mosque.

Before leaving Katara Cultural Village, we visited High Street, where the French department store Galeries Lafayette is located. The most amazing part? There are vents built into the ground all along the street, and when you step close, you realize they are pumping out powerful air conditioning into the open-air street! It's incredibly thoughtful and a lifesaver in the heat!

Photo from the internet: The Golden Masjid
The only pity is that this attraction covers a huge area. Aside from a longer stop at the outdoor amphitheater, we just quickly passed by most of the other spots or only saw them from the car. For instance, we only got a fleeting glimpse of the famous Golden Masjid (Gold Mosque) and didn't even manage to snap a photo. Katara Cultural Village is massive, and if the weather isn't too hot, it definitely feels like a place you could visit independently and spend at least half a day or a full day exploring. However, since the outdoor temperature was pushing 40+ degrees Celsius (over 100°F) when we went, staying outside for even ten minutes felt like a meltdown. In that sense, joining the Discover Doha tour—where you can hop back on the air-conditioned bus between quick stops—was honestly much more comfortable and relaxing!
The Pearl-Qatar

Next, we arrived at Qatar's famous upscale district, The Pearl-Qatar (also known as Pearl Island).

The Pearl is filled with high-end residences, restaurants, luxury hotels, marinas, and glamorous yachts. The whole area is incredibly clean and pristine, and rumor has it there are many fantastic restaurants here. At the very least, our guide mentioned how much she loves coming to this neighborhood for brunch!

Finally, we took a drive through a residential section of The Pearl. The architecture and vibe completely make you feel like you've been transported to Venice! You can even catch a glimpse of the iconic Katara Towers in the distance.

Booking the Discover Doha tour on the Qatar Airways official website costs QAR 134 per person, which is about 36 USD. Originally, we didn't have high expectations for a half-day guided tour at this price point. We had previously joined a half-day city tour in Dubai and felt the itinerary was very mediocre—they took us to spots with cheap tickets where all the tour groups squeezed into the same crowded areas, many places we actually wanted to see were only photo ops from the bus window, and they dragged us to a massive waste-of-time shopping stop. It was a bit of a disaster! So, when Kevin said he wanted to book another half-day tour for Doha, Cherry gave him a huge, massive "NO!" (Though clearly, her veto was overruled 😅).
To our complete surprise, because this Discover Doha half-day tour is organized by Qatar Airways, there was zero forced shopping, and the itinerary was incredibly rich and well-planned from start to finish! More importantly, we had a beautiful and professional guide who clearly worked this job out of a genuine love for Doha. The entire experience gave us the impression that Qatar Airways curated this tour specifically to promote tourism in Doha, rather than to make a quick buck. Although we couldn't stay long at each attraction due to time constraints, it truly is the best way to see Doha's highlights quickly if you're short on time. It's rare for Cherry to genuinely love a half-day tour (this is not sponsored at all!), but we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone!
