The design-forward Klaus K Hotel sits right in the heart of Helsinki, and its location is simply unbeatable. Step out the door, cross one street, and you're at Esplanadi Park — with Helsinki's most iconic sights all reachable on foot. With its refined interiors and prime central location, it's absolutely one of our top picks for anyone planning a Helsinki trip.

🎸 Location

We put together a quick map showing Helsinki city center attractions alongside Klaus K Hotel — you're basically walking out the door straight into the sights. It's that convenient. For detailed information on the must-see spots marked on the map, check out: Helsinki Top 10 Attractions Guide
🎸 Lobby

The entrance to Klaus K Hotel isn't particularly grand or flashy, but the moment you step inside, the design sense hits you immediately. Sleek, curved check-in counters sit beneath a sculptural installation that looks like snow-dusted tree branches — Nordic elegance at its best.

Even the staircase near the entrance is lit with dramatic lighting.

We checked in just after Christmas, so festive decorations were still everywhere — and the lighting choices had that unmistakably Scandinavian touch.

When we stayed in December 2018, Klaus K Hotel was still part of the Marriott International family as a Design Hotels property. Unfortunately, they officially left the Marriott network in 2019 and joined "Preferred Hotels" instead. Thanks to our Marriott status at the time, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Sky Loft room. All Sky Loft rooms are accessed through this door 👇🏻 — frosted glass that looks deceptively dark from the outside.

The moment you push open that dark-looking door, the motion-sensor lights in the entire corridor blaze on all at once — and honestly, the effect is so cool. Energy-efficient too. The hallway ceiling is a high-gloss reflective material that bounces the light around, giving the whole space a futuristic vibe. It's not trying to be luxurious — it's just full of clever little surprises.

🎸 Room Tour
The room itself felt warm and cozy — almost like being at home.

Our particular room had a Finnish Guitar theme. A real classical guitar hung on the wall by the bed!

There was also a sweet little framed note — a message to guests from the room's "owner," Cario Vego. He wrote: "Welcome to my loft. I've always been fascinated by stringed instruments. A few years ago I learned about the kantele (an ancient Finnish harp), moved from Mexico to Finland to learn how to play it, and have never left since…" We're not entirely sure if Cario is a real person, but the story — combined with that actual guitar on the wall — instantly made the space feel like someone's real, lived-in home. Warmth factor: through the roof.

The details throughout this design hotel are very different from what you'd find at a typical Marriott-family property. Just inside the entrance is a small foyer with a mini bar, followed by a compact sitting area.

There was even a pair of binoculars sitting on top of the mini bar!

The living area furniture — TV console, coffee table, ceiling light fixtures — all diverged from what you'd expect from a standard hotel. Very Nordic. We half-expected to see IKEA price tags 😄

The room key card had a beautiful blue-sky-and-clouds design — too pretty not to photograph.

The room makes extensive use of indirect lighting — even the art installations on the walls are backlit.

The headboard wall has a distinctive design, while the bedside tables themselves are beautifully minimal.

The turndown service placed a water bottle on the bedside — and even the bottle itself had a beautifully designed look.

The bathroom is done in grays, whites, and black with gold pendant lighting.

The most memorable feature? The toilet. It was embedded into an enormous panel that looked like it belonged in a high-end tech showroom. The whole bathroom took on a futuristic feel because of it. How do you flush? We puzzled over it for a while — we'll leave that mystery for you to discover!

No bathtub in the bathroom, but the shower had everything you'd need.

Even the toiletries showed thoughtful eco-consciousness — dispensed from large reusable containers rather than single-use travel-size bottles. The brand is MALIN+GOETZ, founded in New York in 2004, known for combining natural ingredients with advanced skincare science and formulating products suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. From the motion-sensor corridor lights to the eco-friendly toiletry choices, you can feel this hotel's genuine commitment to sustainability.

🎸 SKY TERRACE Bar
One thing we absolutely have to recommend at Klaus K Hotel: the rooftop bar, SKY TERRACE.

We only had two nights there — arriving late, leaving early — with just one full day in between. We packed that day with a whirlwind Helsinki day trip and didn't make it back to the hotel until after dark 😄 We still made time to pop up to the SKY TERRACE, though.

The bar had already closed for the night, but water and a coffee machine were still available for self-service. There were also newspapers and magazines to flip through.

Stepping outside onto the rooftop terrace itself — the views are genuinely stunning. Perched in the heart of the city, the SKY TERRACE looks out over the Helsinki skyline.

The illuminated Helsinki Cathedral was fully visible in all its evening glory. If you stay here, don't skip this.

We missed seeing it in daylight, which is a different kind of beautiful entirely.

Overall, Klaus K Hotel is a compact, warm, and thoroughly charming design hotel — full of thoughtful touches that leave a lasting impression. If you browse the official Klaus K Hotel website, you'll find an enormous variety of room types, each with a completely different design concept — something for every taste. The service was genuinely warm and memorable, and the location is hard to beat. If you're heading to Helsinki, we wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try.
